An interesting analogy that comes to my mind is that of a growing tree. Our love for the Lord is like the vertical growth of the tree. When we see a mature tree, of great height, it is supported horizontally by a root system extended in all directions. Those horizontal roots are much like our love for one another. Our love for God (vertical) is not true, lacks verifiability, cannot be believed without our love for one another (horizontal), the evidence of His love in us.
