From the marriage standpoint, I made a covenant before God and a company of friends and family to stay loyal and to be commited to Jim. He felt the same way. As we have matured as Christians we understand how important covenants are with the Lord. Also Jesus mentions adultery “in the mind and in the heart”. This goes beyond “sex” and includes idols- money, prestige,”fill in your blanks”, envy, desires for things God never intends for us. Listening to God and walking in His path is arduous at times!
To address Pastor Bryan’s question on what does the 7th Commandment have for those who are not yet married; I would pose that, beginning in adolescence, we learn how to live sexually pure lives and those who succeed in learning purity and how to remain pure will stand a much better chance if remaining faithful once they are married. Meanwhile, those who struggle with purity before marriage are more likely to stumble after marriage.
Agreed ! BUT-Depends on the heart change. If there’s a heart change then behavior changes!
