Promises Kept

Re:Verse reading–1 Samuel 18:1-16, 19:1-10 (day four)

It seems that Saul always had a spear in his hand…three times he tried to pin David to the wall with it.  David escaped each time.  It is not that Saul was just no good with a spear…he was a warrior and well-trained in the weapons of war.  God was protecting David.  He had promised David he would be king…David had been anointed by God’s servant Samuel.  God always keeps His Word!

God always keeps His promises with us, too.  When He tells us that if we, in faith, confess His Son, we will be forgiven of our sin and saved from death for eternity, we can trust Him to keep His promise.  This promise alone is so big, it is almost beyond our comprehension.  But there is more!  God has given us promises throughout His Scripture.  Search the Scriptures…find His promises…believe Him!  Even when the spears are flying, God will fulfill His Word!

  1. God is not human. He is God. He is the essence of righteousness and does not have a fallen nature.

We may change our minds as our situations change but God is unchanging for 2,000 years. His purpose for our salvation remains unchanged. God runs the world and operates it consistently from the beginning. He will be with us in troubled times while others will find ways to escape. We can turn to Him when others run away from us. He is faithful while men are unfaithful. He has not changed His word. His Word is unchanging for 2,000 years!

Men may not have sufficient resources when their circumstances require them; God created resources which men depend on for their survival so God’s resources will be always abundant. His resources are plenty and abundant. He is always present when we need Him; we may not find family and friends when we need them. Men will close the opportunity doors to others; God will always open up the opportunities for us to come to Him.

God is unchanging, past, now and future. His word is unchanging since He created the earth. He is the Creator of the Universe. He is not human and does not have fallen nature. His goal and purpose for us, salvation and eternal life, are the same, unchanging. He knows in this life we will not avoid troubles and sufferings but if we trust and believe in His word, our troubles and sufferings can be minimized, if not eliminated. He is faithful and unchanging Lord. He promised to bless Abraham and his descendants and He kept His promises.

We can always count on God’s promises because of His character, His unchanging nature, and His infinite wisdom.
