The Lord said to Samuel, “Obey their voice and make them a king.” 1 Samuel 8:22
Make no mistake, the people’s desire for a king was a rejection of God’s leadership, and yet God told Samuel to obey their voice. God did not acquiesce because having a sinful earthly king was a brilliant idea; it was not! God, allowed Samuel to obey their voice because providentially it would lead to great sorrow and ultimately a longing for a purely noble and righteous king. He said “yes” to their request because it would point to their desperate need for an infinitely better king that would be fulfilled in Jesus.
Sometimes when God says “yes” to our persistent requests, he does so only so he can show us what (or who) we really need, it’s just that sometimes we have to see it through great sorrow that leads to longing. (Kind of like the Prodigal Son.)
Godly leaders are concerned for the welfare of their people and their organizations. Great leaders allow their people the freedom to make mistakes. While mistakes allow individuals to learn and grow, they can also be very costly to the organizations. Great leaders found ways to allow their people to take risks but are prepared to support them when their efforts fail without placing their organizations in jeopardy.
I could not agree more, “Sometimes when God says “yes” to our persistent requests, he does so only so he can show us what (or who) we really need, it’s just that sometimes we have to see it through great sorrow that leads to longing.”

We all learn and develop through personal trials and errors. I am sure we all make mistakes and from those lessons learned, we will know the value of peace, wisdom and protection. Sometimes we learn more from bad people than from good people because we know what we don’t want to do. Sometimes people go outside the framework that is designed to protect them from failure, mentally, spiritually, socially, financially, organizationally, or culturally because they reject or mistrust the leadership or choose to disobey and to go their own way. Sometimes failures in life help us develop self-awareness and develop deep appreciation for those who have the wisdom and want to protect us from self-punishment or self-destruction.
This blog should remind us that God has a plan for each of us and the earth. People can choose to reject God or to submit to Him and His plan. God is not a dictator but is our protector and will allow us to go our own, separate way. He knows we will turn to Him when our own efforts fail and allows us to turn to Him for His supreme power and authority and for His glory.
I truly believe that only through great sorrow and adversity to our life, we will know who the real boss of the earth is!! We cannot go against His will and His plan on earth for mankind and for established structures and leadership foundations and expect to have joy, peace and happiness. Disobedience always comes with a cost!
