Re:Verse reading–James 2:14-26 (day three)
“Can such faith save them?” We throw words around all the time like we know what we’re doing. One such word is “believe”. What do we mean when we use that word? Consider two people who are hard workers and true to their word with their families and in their dealings with others day by day. One, we learn, “believes in” God, while the other, we discover, is unconvinced of God’s existence. What does belief really mean in this instance? Does belief mean anything more than choosing the “right answer”, all other things being equal? Is each person’s eternal destiny the only difference between these two? James reveals that to believe is to arrange your life in such a way that you live as if what you say you believe is true. In other words, belief is a life, not a resumé.
I could not agree more, “belief is a life”. If I believe in someone, I trust that person for his or her decisions, actions and behaviors. My decisions, actions, and behaviors will be just like that person. There is a trusting fellowship and friendship relationship with that person. As such, that person is the model for my actions and behaviors throughout my life journey. I will conduct my life the same way as this person has done!
Have you believed in someone or admired someone to whom you would want to follow in the conduct of your personal life or professional life? I have. If we believe in something, we only really believe it when we are willing to commit our life to it and actually walk across it. It is the same way with Jesus Christ. If we truly believe in Jesus is our Lord and Savior, our thoughts, actions, behaviors, and attitudes will be just like Jesus! We would commit doing what Jesus did and walk with Him consistently and faithfully! In other words, to believe in Christ is to commit our lives by faith to Christ, to trust Him personally as our Lord and Savior.
My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will live in me forever and I will come to believe strongly in Christ, to have faith and trust in Him and to know Him personally as my Lord and Savior.
Whom do you believe in and why?
