Re:Verse passage – Exodus 20:17 (day one)
“You shall not covet…anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
Join us as Senior Pastor Chris Johnson, Associate Pastor Aaron Hufty and Associate Pastor Bryan Richardson walk us through Exodus 20:17 (the 10th Commandment) in our Summer Sermon Series: “Meant for More. A Study of Commandments.”
Having a desire for achieving something in life for personal and professional fulfillment and satisfaction is a good goal. We cannot grow and thrive if we have no desires for anything. How to satisfy our desire is the question!
If we have a strong desire to become a better person, to help others, to be empathic and compassionate, to be more self-giving and thoughtful, this is the kind of desire we all should embrace. If we have a strong desire to steal from others, for example, tangible and intangible possessions, material goods, name and fame, and so on; in other words, if we have a strong desire to steal from others what we don’t have or what we are incapable to do for ourselves, it is a wrongful desire.
There are, of course, very different kinds of desires. As long as we live, we should have desires and aspirations. If we benefit others, it is a good desire to have.
The feeling of contentment is important as well. Life is less stressful and is more joyful if we feel content. I like to conclude with this quote, “if someone asks me if my cup is half-full or half-empty, my only response is that I am thankful for having a cup.”
Good discussion. Thank you!
Well said!
First of all, Dr. Callaway, I love the quote! Thank you. Gentlemen, as usual, wonderful discussion. Bryan, your question brings it home. Bringing it back to look at ourselves and then focusing on loving the person rather than desiring the object, award, etc… Thank y’all!
You’re welcome Nikki and thank you for commenting!
