Re:Verse reading— 1 Samuel 20:1-17, 30-42 (day one)
“Then David said to Jonathan, ‘Who will tell me if your father answers harshly?’ ” v 10
When you need information, to whom do you turn? Google? The Weather Channel? Your Mom? Recently, I’ve seen a new pattern. “Facebook friends, does anyone know a good _____ that you can recommend?”
When David needed insider information, the only person He could turn to was his friend, Jonathan. (Was the King’s rage a function of his mental/spiritual instability? Was it something David have done? Was he charged with a crime? ) Only Jonathan could learn the truth and only Jonathan would risk communicating with a wanted man.
Jesus is our Jonathan. Our Friend. Our Messenger from Heaven. The One Person who will communicate with us the truth about the King’s attitude toward us.
“No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.”–John 1:18
Jesus called His disciples His friends. He said: “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.” John 15:12 KJV
Jonathan was the type of friend who followed Jesus’ commandment. We all need to have friends like Jonathan in this temporary life. True and loyal friends who have character like Jesus are rare these days. True and loyal friends, whom we can trust and count on during personal and professional hardships, who will be with us and be there for us in good times and bad times, are rare these days.
Whom do you trust matters! I would trust God and true and loyal family and friends who really love and care for me as they love and care for themselves, like Jesus’ love and care for His disciples.
I have seen folks seeking recommendations from Facebook friends. They may not see and hear God’s voice because God is invisible. Facebook friends are the matter of convenience so turning to Facebook friends seems to be natural to most. Whether they use the recommendations Facebook friends provide to them and act on those recommendations is unknown. Friends who love and care for us like Jesus loved and cared for His disciples may not be in social media.
I am convinced God’s guide is in full force so we can find His recommendations from His word. Look to God’s recommendations via His word first. Certain matters can be learned from trusted and loyal family members and friends. We should know whom we can trust if we read and listen to God’s word.
We don’t see and hear God’s voice because He is God and invisible. We see and hear Facebook friends constantly around the clock but God is present and sees what is going on. God provided Jonathan, a trusted and loyal friend to David and God will do the same for us if we honor, trust and believe in Him. God is present 24 hours a day. Turn to His word for guidance and recommendations for our daily living.
Anyone can have lots of friends but true and loyal friends are rare in this life; and if we surround by true and loyal friend, we must be thankful for God! Ask God to reveal to you who your trusted and loyal friends are and I believe He will. God will tell us for sure, Jesus is our friend! He is our friend for earthy life and for eternity. He is the only one we can count on every turn and trust 100%! God bless!
Thanks for the reminder about the trust issue, Pastor Don!
