Re:Verse reading–Acts 1:1-14 (day seven)
“My first account. . .(was) about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day He was taken up into Heaven, after He had, by the Holy Spirit, given orders to the apostles.”–v 1-2
We call it the ascension. An amazing end to an amazing life. (And not actually the end–that’s the point.) As the disciples watched, Jesus was physically lifted up into Heaven. (Please see the stained glass window on the East end of the Great Hall)
To meditate on this truth is to expand your mind. Jesus is still alive! Still a man. Sitting beside the Father– counselor, Son, Sovereign and intercessor. As active in the world as ever!
Please notice. Before leaving, the LORD (He takes this title seriously) gave ORDERS to the Apostles. (Every text repeats this emphasis. See Mark 16:19, Acts 1:9) His absence will not mean loss of momentum. He will act (until He comes) through us!
The Lord Jesus gave orders to the Apostles before His Ascention. Thanks for this notice.
Yes, Jesus’ orders to the Apostles and His ascention into heaven moment are significant and signifies His mission on earth will continue and the implications for our lives. What a beautiful, one-of-a-kind and unique moment to watch! Jesus completed his Father’s mission.
It is not the end following Jesus’ ascension however. He is still alive, presently reigning as king, remains active, rules with all authority and power over mankind and the earth, and actively engage in our world and our lives. Wow! so convincing and hopeful for believers!
A great feeling, knowing that our ascended Jesus is always present in our lives and is a great king, counselor, mediator, and a judge with all heaven’s authority. He is our Lord and Savior.
So much hope and encouragement to continue to serve His mission and to follow Him. He will end injustice and sufferings, hear our prayers and will respond with love, His power and authority. I have faith and trust in Him, his kingdom of truth, righteousness and love.
Best of all, He will return; and we, the believers, will be with Him, our Lord, Savior and King forever. No more sickness. No more sufferings. No more injustice. Who do not want those?? Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I am bought!
Thank you Pastor Don. I will look for the stained glass window on the East end of the Great Hall.
