How do Christ following wives apply the following to abusive husbands?
Verse 25 tells husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Christ was a servent leader. He led, but served them, too. He loved them and willingly gave up his life to cleanse them and us. That is a high bar for men. That is the kind of man Paul is saying wives should submit to.
What he did not say was for men to be dominating, cruel, or abusive. The abusive husband you reference is not in love with his wife. Neither are domineering and cruel males. These are not males worthy of a Godly woman submitting to them. They are a blight on our society.
Christ following wives do not submit to them; they leave them.
Thanks for the confirmation. When you read scripture in any translation, sometimes explanations are left out due to transcribing error or social/cultural differences and how we need to apply currently. Our daughter has had that experience and feels the guilt but needed the peace of ending that relationship.
