Re:Verse passage – Judges 3:31 and Acts 2:42-47 (day one)
Join us as Senior Pastor Chris Johnson, Associate Pastor Aaron Hufty and Associate Pastor Bryan Richardson walk us through Judges 3:31 and Acts 2:42-47 in our Summer Re:Verse Series: “JUDGES – God, Our Deliverer.”
Is this the only mentioned of Shamgar in the Bible? To think of the strength God gave him to strike down one person let alone 600 people, most likely over the course of his lifetime???
Thank you, dear Pastors, that you have elected to present for study Acts 2:42-47, in a very appropriate break from our ongoing study of little studied passages of the Old Testament.
However, Pastor Bryan, you make an excellent point that Shamgar did make the Bible, even though mentioned once in Judges 3:31 and again in Deborah and Barak’s song in Judges 5:6. It was said that “He too saved Israel.”
Such a miraculous feat of deliverance surely is deserving of an epic musical work, one which Dr. Hufty no doubt would give inspiring and praiseworthy treatment! Something to consider? Make room Michael John Trotta.
Although Shamgar got one sentence, I think as Christians, just as Israel, we all face warfare. Without the Armor of God we fail. Maybe we could reflect on the fact that we battle not against flesh and blood but powers and principalities that are satanic. No victory is satisfactory or lasting without God’s covering. As for the new church in Acts, they were indeed preparing themselves in prayer and fellowship for the hardships and battles with the government of Rome to come.
