  1. The Mount of Olives represents the bending of my will to God’s will. David is saying he knows what he deserves for his actions and is willing to undergo whatever punishment God will give him. Ultimately, the only thing he wants is to still belong to God after it is over. Regardless of the loss of everything….reputation, personal comfort, even family, as long as he still belongs to God at the end. Separation from God is the worst possible outcome.

  2. On the Monday Re:Blog, I had a couple of things come to mind. First, David is never actually saying that God had Shimei curse him and throw stones at him (16:10, “If he is . . .”), but that it COULD BE that God had him cursing him and throwing stones. I appreciate David’s value of human life at that point. Second, I guess I have some trouble with the idea of David thinking “Where is God?” I do hear him saying “So when, oh God, may I continue a sweet fellowship with You as this comes to an end?”
It is appalling that Ahithophel gave Absalom such horrible advice right off the top, having been revered as a God-fearing counselor. His counsel about overtaking David is probably the best and yet it is conveniently discarded, leading to Absalom’s plight.
