Re:Verse reading—Psalm 23 (day two) I shall not want. vs. 1b

 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry,whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:11-13

One of the things we teach our children is the difference between need and want. Recognizing a desire from a necessity is not always easy when our emotions get involved. One of the by-products of dwelling with Jesus is a way to help clearly differentiate the two. Being content is not about being apathetic, it is about understanding a dependency upon Christ for our source of fulfillment. Ultimately we will want what he wants for us. That leads to a restored soul.

  1. God has provided everything on earth for our survival/needs. If we have not found what we need because we are lost, ask and He will provide or direct us where to find what we need. Going beyond our basic needs is our wishes or desires.

    Human beings always want more and more. They continue to build on their wish list! In reality, some will satisfy with basic needs and some will satisfy by having more. At certain points in our lives, we may pause, reflect and ask ourselves, “what do I really need for my survival?” The desire to have more than what we really need does not come without unnecessary stress.

    So the next time when we are frustrated not to have something, ask ourselves this question, “Can I live without it?” If the answer is “yes”, you can let it go if you want to find peace! Sometimes peace is all we need.
