God-sized Victory

Re:Verse reading–1 Samuel 17:1-11, 26-32, 38-51 (day two)

“For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should taunt the armies of the living God?” 17:26b

This is really another way to view what God told Samuel in chapter 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

The size of the king did not matter to God, so why should the size of the enemy? Surely there was no one more qualified to answer that question than David. The anointing of God was given because of his heart, and he knew that if you stood in opposition to the will of God you would surely fall, regardless of size. His confidence in the Lord was his shield, his sword, and his armor. How could he fail? Are you still looking at the size of the problem, or are you trusting the size of your God?

  1. Size is just a number. Just like age, age is just a number. So forget about the size. It does not mean anything.

Many people still don’t know who God is and what He is like. They don’t even think He exists. And if He did, they argued, why He allowed for all the sufferings or the bad things occurred around the world. Some do believe God exists but have limited view about Him. How we think of God affects our daily lives.

Talking about the size of our problems often limits our view and thoughts about who God is and what He is like. Nothing in this world that God cannot do. Nothing is too little or too big that He cannot solve. He created the earth and knows all things as well as knows all about us, deep down in our hearts. He operates the world but He empowers us to steer the operations as long as we steer it in the direction that He chose for us in accordance to His salvation plan. He cares for our overall physical and spiritual welfare and long-term peace.

Instead of focusing on the size of our problems or worrying about our future, focus on God, submit our problems or worries to Him and let God guide/steer the problem-solving wheel. It is not the size of our problems, concerns or worries, it is the “size” of God and the size of our trust and Christian beliefs. In order to turn to God and think of God rightly, I think we must trust and believe that God is present and He is ready to help if we ask Him and give Him time to provide solutions. Don’t allow the size of our issues or problems or our limited view about God limit our discovery and journey with God but realize His greatness and how powerful He is. Whom do we turn to if not God, the Creator of the Universe?
