Re:Verse reading–Luke 15:1-2, 11-32 (day two)
But when he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger! vs. 17
It happens at some point to all of us. We come to that moment where we realize our inability to go on. We have done all we can do on our own, and we are struck with the truth that it will never be enough. For you it may not be the absolute rock bottom like the prodigal son in this story, but we all get to the point where we look up and ask “why have I been on this path for so long?”
The story doesn’t end there. In what is becoming a familiar narrative for Dr. Luke the son’s first words to his father are complete contrition and humility.
And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ vs. 21
When we experience that moment of brokenness and confess our utter need and dependence upon Jesus he does something very unexpected. He celebrates our return. We never get what we deserve when we submit to Jesus.
We, humans, unless were born with wealth, have experienced or will experience with the “low” life throughout our earthly life journey. No one will be able to maintain and sustain the same life, rich or poor, conditions forever. I am sure there will be time when we may feel completely brokenness, hopelessness and loneliness; and nothing can comfort us. We may find ourselves completely on our own without any support of family or friends. Life can take a 360-degree turn on us!! I am sure some will blame on others and God, the Creator, for their situations or circumstances!
In my view, blaming others does not help turn our circumstances or situations around. Instead by submitting our concerns to God and by inviting Him to take control of us and over those concerns, we may see the light at the end of the tunnel! Hope and trust in God can provide us spiritual strength from those “low” life moments and help us move forward.
In every situation, desirable or undesirable, I always think God’s desire was to prepare me physically, mentally and spiritually so I can understand how others feel and can be more sympathetic and more compassionate toward those who may be experiencing similar situations or circumstances.
A “low” life is a form of sufferings and only through personal sufferings that we can understand God’s purpose on earth and know that God is present in all situations and is in total control of our lives.
So instead of blaming on others or on God or continuing the undesirable or wrong path, turn to God through prayers! He is the one who can lift us up and by faith, He will reveal and guide us for our next moves to turn the undesirable circumstances or situations around! In Him, we have hope, see light and not darkness!
I am reminded of Psalm 46:1 (KJV)—God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. From my perspective, God is the first one we should come to for rescue and restoration! I have faith and trust in Him! He will be always with us, His believers and followers, and will be present in all situations! We just have to seek God, be humble before Him, ask and be given!!
