Promise kept

Re:Verse reading–Luke 2:1-20 (day one)

“Today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”–v 11

The only thing impossible for God (see last week’s lesson) is to break His own word.  He is eternally trustworthy and self-consistent.  Heaven and earth will pass away.  Not His word.  Not ever.

Luke 2 is written 1000 years after God made the promise to David.  One of His sons would reign over an eternal kingdom. (2 Samuel 7:12-13) An eternal Kingdom?  Unimaginable!  Even to David.

As the years flowed slowly by, many forget this promise.  (Most of us have short memories and small faith.) God, however, did not forget.  When the time came, He orchestrated the historical events so that Joseph and Mary (by coincidence-Ha!) would be in the city of David for the Son of David to be born.

“God is not a man that He should lie.”–Numbers 23:19.

Child, what has God promised you?

  1. With trust in God’s promises and with the help of the Holy Spirit, the path to walk in Christ should be comforting. When we trust someone, our relationships, business or personal, will be greatly enhanced as we can effectively communicate, can count on, and can convey to our trusted person(s) what we cannot share with others.

Without trust or the lack of it, all communications will gradually die down or will shut down; and there will be no relationships. Trust matters more than anyone can imagine. It is the foundation for all communications, for building relationships and for everything we do or want to engage in. We bond with others based on trust!!

Keeping promises is important in the continuation of trusted and healthy relationships. Knowing you can trust someone is one of the key stepping stone to any relationship. Knowing that God wanted for us to trust Him gives us hope for eternity and joy and a new beginning!

We can trust God as He is our creator and is a provider of all things. As a creator and provider of the earth, I believe He will protect His resources and will make sure His plan on earth be fulfilled. God is ambitious to build His Kingdom and to fulfill His plan so He will want for everyone to benefit from His promises.

I am convinced that when we follow God, He will not fail us in any walks of our lives! The Bible is full of promises and divine counseling! The Bible reveals God’s wisdom and vision for conflict prevention, problem-solving, and resolutions.

It is important to me that my needs will be taken care of, have an abundant life and to have God’s protection. It is comforting to know through scriptures that God promised to supply our needs, to give abundant and eternal life to those who follow Jesus, peace to us, and burden are lifted when we pray, and He will finish the work He started in us!

Men may make many promises and break them because they have limitations! We trust folks when they keep and deliver their promises. When promises are not delivered, the trust is broken; the relationship is broken. Mistrust is the result. As creator and builder of the earth, God has no limitations so His promises will be delivered if we follow Him, trust and have faith in Him. I am convinced that following Jesus will bring us more spiritual fulfillment than we could have anticipated and believe this statement is true, “The only thing impossible for God is to break His own word.”~ Pastor Don Guthrie
