Re:Verse reading–2 Corinthians 8:1-15 (day one)

“In a great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the wealth of their generosity.”–2 Corinthians 8:2
The Macedonian miracle is not unusual in Christian history. It is, in fact, the norm! God gives! Joy comes! Recipients become givers!
Generosity is a learned virtue. A proof of new life. For God so loved the world He GAVE. For the church so loved God that we GIVE in response.
He does not fail in His generosity. We dare not fail in ours.
Great topic! Christian generosity is a core value in Jesus’ followers. God GAVE so we can help others in need. I have seen the good hearts and the generosity of Christians I have the privilege to meet and are friended with. They have given their time and whatever they can to help others in need. They think of others more.
I have always believed that it is not necessary to be a wealthy philanthropist or a full-time volunteer to make a meaningful contribution to others who are in need. Rather, we are encouraged to give generously of whatever God has given us and abilities we have, no matter how tiny the amount. We give because God gave us, and we give as we find a meaning in what we give!
I am reminded that God equipts each believer certain spiritual gifts so we can use those skills and knowledge to benefit others in need. So there are non-financial aspects we can tap into to help others as well, such as providing advice and sharing personal and professional wisdom to uplift others. Christian generosity has been the core of Christian values and it helps separate believers from non-believers!
We give generously, no matter how small or to the extent of its usefullness it may seem or be realized. The heart counts. I know a positive gesture, a phone call, a personal visit, and sincere advice can save or transform a life! Be there and give our time or what we can generously at critical moments are priceless. Be kind and be compassionate are a generous gift for all!
Maybe it is time for us, believers, to look at our God’s given resources and spiritual gifts,
financially and non-financially? I will do my personal inventory. Thanks for the reminder of this important core Christian value!
