What angels teach us

RE Verse reading–Isaiah 6 (day six)  “With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying” (vs 2)   Men ancient and wise used to say that the Seraphim had six wings, “two that they might not see, two that they might not be seen, and two that they might flying immediately to the task commanded of them by God”.  Interesting thought.  Excellent subject for reflection.  All three purposes would be expressions of humility before God.  We must be careful when we have a desire to be seen, a need to be the center of attention.  It is an evil thing.  John the Baptist said, “He must increase, I must decrease”.  Those who consciously or unconsciously seek to draw attention to themselves have not learned the lesson that even angels know.  “If my people who are called by MY NAME will humble themselves and pray. . .I will heal their land.”

  1. Definitely an excellent subject for reflection.

I know someone who truly struggles with an unquenchable need for attention/acceptance from others. I pray for this person often and feel very discouraged when I see them slipping back into this pattern. The Lord reminds me in these times that I am not to judge, but to continue to struggle in prayer for them.

In prayer this week, the Lord helped me to understand what humility before Him looks like. Although the “humility” that most of us think about (lowering ourselves in our own eyes) makes the conditions conducive to true humility…. it is not of much value unless we go all the way to seeing Him as who He is (exalted, high and lifted up, infinite/omnipresent creator/sustainer, our redeemer, our saviour, our provider, our protector, our healer…on and on. This is true humility….and honestly it makes lowering ourselves in our own eyes no problem at all…because we truly see HIM.

In this world’s system people are to be “used” to get what we want or what we think we need. They are to be competed against for the resources/power/”love” of the world. In the Kingdom’s system people are the true value (and God is recognized as the Provider of all the things the world goes after (He really is!). We are to love and prefer one another/their success over our own….because we are all in this together (a win for one means a win for all/a loss for one means a loss for all)…we (as believers) are one Body and Love is the highest opportunity any person has on any given day.

Just makes me dream/pray about what the person I mentioned who so desires to be the center of attention would become if they could let that go because they see how totally AMAZING they are….not above others….but along with them (no higher or lower)…just because they are made in the image of God and they are now His child. He has a plan and a GREAT HOPE for them.

Unfortunately, we cannot have our cake and eat it too in this world…”I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” (Deut 30)
