Re:Verse reading–Matthew 6:1-18 (day five) “Then your Father. . .will reward you” (vs 4) My son is getting married this weekend. Holly and I are pleased and proud of Alex and Laura for the people that they have become and the choices they have made. As the weekend approaches, my chest is filling with powerful emotions. Among them is a desire to give things to my son. . .advice, time, encouragement, money. Whatever I have. Whatever he needs. Nothing is more predictable. Jesus used to talk about the Father who would give bread not stones. (Luke 11). Jesus was CONVINCED beyond any argument that the heavenly Father would reward His children in the same way. It is just how fathers are! The determined purpose of a perfect Father is to pour out His love, even on imperfect children. Hmmmm. . . God feels about me like I feel about Alex and Andrew (even more so). It is a good reminder that I should have hope!
It still boggles my mind that there are religions that rely on good works as an attempt at salvation. Your blog entry for today is a reminder that God just wants us to accept His amazing gift. It’s what he wants. As a dad, I get it better than I did in the past. God’s grace is indeed sufficient.
Your sons are blessed to have you as a father as we are blessed to have you as a pastor. May your weekend be full of joy – I know it will!
What a great Blessing the Lord has given your family (Prov 18:22).
The double blessing is to have a father/head of the family who understands what you do. Your children are blessed indeed.
For Alex and Laura in their union my prayer is:
May the LORD bless you, and keep you;
May the LORD make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you;
May the LORD lift up His countenance on you,
And give you peace.
(Numbers 6:24-26)
Father, I ask that you would richly bless their union, give them an abundantly fruitful future and be Lord of their journey every day for the rest of their lives. Amen.
