Re:Verse passage – Psalm 139:13-16 (day one)
Join us as Senior Pastor Chris Johnson, Associate Pastor Rick Henderson, and Associate Pastor Bryan Richardson walk us through Psalm 139:13-16 in our Summer Re:Verse Series: “IMAGO DEI – What it means to be human.”
I have a question about verse 14 where it says fearfully and wonderfully made. I understand the word wonderfully but am in a quandry about the use of fearfully. Could someone shed some light on that for me. Thank you!
Hi Sharon – Great question! I have often thought about the word ‘fearfully’ in this context as well. So I did some research: “Fearfully” when translated from the Hebrew means “with great reverence, heart-felt interest, and with respect.” The word ‘fearfully,’ then, indicates that we are created by God through a reverent, holy process. Doesn’t this make us worship in awe of Him who designed us in a way that reflects His own holiness to fulfill the purpose He has planned for us!
Amen! Thank you for that, Charlie. That does make our very being that much more holy, like our holy Lord.
