Re:Verse passage – 1 Peter 1:1-9 (day one)
Join us as Senior Pastor Chris Johnson, Associate Pastor Aaron Hufty, and Associate Pastor Bryan Richardson walk us through 1 Peter 1:1-9 in our Fall Re:Verse Series: “To Be Holy Like Jesus” A Study in 1 Peter.
I appreciate how succinctly Peter lays out the difficulties we will face in obedience to Christ, but frames it in the context of an infinitely greater eternal salvation:
“…though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials…”
I would think for most of us our Christian walk covers decades of struggles, repentance, and obedience, and yet it really is just a little while in comparison to an inheritance that is “imperishable, undefiled, and unfading…”.
But Peter does not diminish these trials, and instead reassures us that we are not alone in our struggles:
“who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
This passage is a good example of the place and power of Christian discipleship. Peter lived these events – he has struggled and come through the other side – and now he reassures fellow believers by reminding us to keep things in perspective and to remember that the Lord is with us.
