Re:Verse reading–Luke 7:36-50 (day two) And standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. vs. 38
Here we have another personal encounter with Jesus that completely shatters our need to be anything other than broken before him. Like Peter in chapter 5 this woman has recognized Jesus as Lord, and likewise, her insufficiency. What I find most beautiful about this story is her focus and attention on Jesus. Luke does not record her complaining or asking him to fix something. This encounter is absolute devotion. Worship at its most beautiful. Worship that completely adores our savior. This is where we need to be. We bring nothing to him. His has been and will ever be our all. Consider acknowledging that as you pray today. Let this inform how you worship next Sunday.
It was a beautiful act of repentance and worship. She adored and honored Jesus as the Holy one in my view and might have realized how unholy and sinful she was.
She could have realized that Jesus’ way of life was completely in contrast to her way of life and felt shameful. Probably she had a change of heart and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. From my perspective, her behaviors revealed a real repentance of her sins and revealed a high level of humility, affection, love and respect for Jesus.
By faith and through prayers, we can follow the woman’s example of real repentance of sins, of humility and love for the Lord at each opportunity. I am convinced that Jesus changed her heart for a new beginning at that moment of her encounter with Jesus!
Jesus is worthy to praise for and was an effective change leader! Only through humility, love, respect and adoration for Jesus as Lord and Savior that one would submit himself or herself to Jesus the way this woman did! What a beautiful way of repentance and worship the Lord!
What are your thoughts, readers of this blog, why she did as she did?
