Re:Verse reading–1 Corinthians 3:1-17 (day two)
What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. Vs. 5
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Mega-church pastor retires – church never recovers. It seems a frequent headline for those in evangelical circles. Churches are built by a hard working, well-intentioned pastor. Good things happen, but in the end the institution cannot support its own weight when the cornerstone is removed. To be fair, I think this is never the desired effect.
We are drawn to the gregarious. We love preachers who can craft a sermon in a memorable way. But Paul reminds us as well as the church in Corinth that any good that happens is due to God alone. Likely our most beloved pastors will continue to remind us of that. When we are focused on the work of the Holy Spirit in our churches, then we are less likely to fall victim to the cult of personality.
Spot on, Aaron. Thank you.
God’s timing is always right. Happy w appropriate it is for us to be in this study hot on the heals of Pastor Chris’s installation. Tiffany. Belle and I were talking about this last week, discussing the role Pastor Don played in helping to rebuild a foundation that was so weak after the split. Tiffany reminded us, though that Dr. Lucinay probably had a tougher role and less appreciated one, but God had a purpose here for him as well, plowing the field for Pastor Don. May God continue to build a strong foundation through Godly pastoral leadership!
That is true. I was thinking the same thing.
So true & it’s sad when it happens. Unfortunately it happens way
too often. Thank you Aaron.
I Love the way you presented this Arron! As Pastor Don so humbly passed his shepherds hook to Pastor Chris. He never made it about himself, but the journey that God chose him to fulfill. There should never be an “icon” in the church.
There should,however…always be a shepherd.
Good article on personalities and team performance. How we utilize differences in personalities to work together to fulfil a mission is critical in any organizations. Diversity should be a strength, not a weakness. God created different personalities for His own glory.
